Two Verses Guaranteed To Change Your Life
You’re probably wondering, how could TWO verses change my life? Well, I’m about to tell you. First, a question- have you ever served somewhere or been on a mission trip? If so, you will probably nod your head when I mention that ‘high’ you get from it. That high comes from living out a specific scripture.
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourself, not looking to your own interest but each of you to the interest of the others.”
This. This right here can and will dramactically change how we live our lives. Read it again and slow. Soak in these words and bind them to your heart.
In marriage it is so easy to get into the humdrum of everyday life. Keeping marriage alive is work. Work that is well worth it. If we choose daily, down the hour and minute to claim this verse over our relationship then good things are bound to happen. Putting our spouse’s needs before our own is anything but natural. But believers, we are called to Philippians 2:3-4. No excuse. Can you imagine if you and your spouse live this verse to the fullest? Doing nothing in selfishness, valuing each other over the other, and looking to the interest of others? Oh and side note- not just looking to the interest of each other but the interest of OTHERS. Together, seeking out ways to put others before yourself? That couple at the restaurant waiting for a table- let them go first. Seeds people. We are planting seeds of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. We are planting seeds of the Gospel.
Not only will this verse affect our perspective on marriage but it will also affect our parenting. Let’s be super transparent here. I don’t wake up every single day looking to put my husband or even my kids before myself. I hit snooze WAYYYYY too many times. Theres a peek of my selfishness right there for ya! And sadly, I could probably go on and on with examples. But instead I’ll focus on the positive. Want to know how my husband lives this scripture out? He is up making breakfast for everyone while also trying to get ready for work. Seriously- what a selfless hero! Anyone else’s toddlers wake up and their first words are like a chant of MILK, FOOD, MILK, FOOD!!!!!?? Oh, and when he walks in that door from work, exhausted and hungry? He ‘clocks in’ to his second job. The job he frequently says is most important and his favorite. He is ALL in with the kiddos from the moment he walks in to the moment we tuck them in. I am sure he would love to kick his feet up and simply unwind but he knows the years aren’t far away where we can do just that. Until then, he continually “values others above himself.” This scripture also tells us to look to the interest of others. Man is this a hard one for all of us, especially our little ones to grasp! How can we implement this in our parenting? Let’s start by talking about serving others, then lets take our littles with us. It’s never too early for them to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Lets demonstrate and invite our children to pray for others.
Is it crazy to you that these two verse will change our life? Give a try. Take your ‘me’ goggles off today and live this scripture out. Let’s do it together. You’re not alone 🙂
