“To Love and To Cherish”
Reading. It USED to be something I enjoyed. Well somewhat. I have this habit of getting half way through a book then never finishing it. Thats never my intentions but it is what it is. I have no idea how or why it happens but it does. ALOT. And once kiddos entered the scene my reading backed up even more. Here’s the deal, with 3 kids under the age of 4 silence is rare. When I get the time to sit and read I don’t get much of it so I choose to read my bible. After all isn’t that the best source of encouragement and challenge?
All of that to say- Michael and I love to go through books together. It’s hard. It takes each of us being very intentional about doing our part but its worth it. One of our favorite authors is Gary Thomas. He has written a slew of books. Some of our favorites are Sacred Marraige, Sacred Parenting and Sacred Influence (I’ll admit- I haven’t finished Sacred Influence but I’ve loved what I’ve read! 😬) Do yourself a favor and check him out here. He writes with such gentleness, encouragment and comes across so genuine. We recently picked up his book Cherish, The one word that changes everything for your marriage. Did that draw you closer to the screen? Cause it should! ONE word to change your marriage. The word Cherish?! Interesting.
Cherish has been SO good! You know my favorite aspect of this book? It has discussion questions at the end of each chapter. M and I read through a chapter, then we have guided questions for intentional conversation! (Speaking of conversation- have you checked out the 30 day conversation challenge? Do so!) The book is only 224 pages and has 13 chapters. They only tend to be 10-11 pages long too! At the end of each chapter it recaps before the discussion questions which is super helpful since neither of us finish a chapter in one sitting due to: mommy, I want milk. Or daddy, come snuggle me and so one 🙂 We are perfectly okay with that too. We fully realize that one day we will have the choice to read a whole book at once if we so please. Until then, we will read them in snippets. 👈 See what I did there?! Snippets of stewarts is more than just the name of our blog. It pretty much sums up our stage of life.
If you and your spouse or even just you are looking to take your marriage to the next level then read this book! It will challenge you to take your love to the next level of cherishing. Until then, I’ll leave you with two quotes:
“To truly cherish something is to go out of our way to show it off. Protect it, and honor it. We want others to see and recognize and affirm the value we see.” -Gary Thomas, Cherish
“Love will always be the backbone of biblical relationships. But studying cherish, with its special qualities, puts a polish on love, makes it shine, and thus adds a special sparkle to our life and marriage.” -Gary Thomas, Cherish
Thanks for taking a ‘snippet’ from our world!
