The Kahala Hotel & Resort

The Kahala Hotel & Resort

7 years ago we had the honor of spending our honeymoon in a romantic paradise. The Kahala Hotel & Resort is truly a place for not only lovers, but families and friends. Hang with me and you find out who visited us on our honeymoon. In Hawaii. Did I mention we were on our honeymoon!? 😜

Anyways, we had the most memorable week away at this luxury destination. Words simply cannot do it justice but I will try! I will also include LOTS of pictures so you can fall in love with the sights of The Kahala Hotel & Resort like we did! Anytime you go to a 5 star hotel you know you’re in for a treat, correct? Well, they went above and beyond at the Kahala and I would give it 10 stars if there was thing! They are located on their own street so it feels so very tucked away but it is still only 5 miles from the shops and dining at Waikiki (which is a gorgeous area too!) but hey, I can pretty much guarantee you won’t want to leave this precious piece of property! πŸ˜‰

entry way

How would you like to walk into that πŸ‘†everyday. Absolutely dreamy! Unbeknownst to us beforehand, the Kahala is actually frequented by many celebrities and even royals! Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited in 1985 and just about every single U.S. President has spent time at the Kahala. It’s like they know just how perfect it is. They have a ‘wall of fame’ with pictures of A-list celebrities that have chosen the Kahala as their vacation spot. Adam Sandler was said to have been there while we were there but hey, no pic, no proof, right?!

If you’re not into celebrity spotting don’t worry! There is plenty on property to keep you busy. Let me start with their incredibly warm welcome. They greeted us with fresh Lei’s and a cool mint towel. They all seemed so genuinely thrilled to see us. I have never been somewhere where I have felt so warmly welcomed! The Kahala has gone above and beyond to include so many complimentary services without a resort fee that most places charge. Internet is free which is a big deal now days because it seems that people never truly disconnect (can’t lie- I’m guilty too!), if you would prefer to read your news without the glare of a screen, they provide a daily newspaper for you too. Of course after your morning coffee or tea, which is included in your room, (or you can go downstairs for it) you can enjoy the free use of CHI Health & Fitness Center which includes a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. I could go on and on about all the services that are included in your stay without that extra resort fee such as the introductory surfing and paddleboard lessons, bicycle rentals, towels and beach furniture rentals, daily turndown service and so many more.

Most people come to Hawaii for one thing- the Hawaiian beaches. They truly are breathtaking! I could sit and listen to waves crash for days. However, if sand isn’t exactly your thing they have an excellent pool where you still have ocean views!

There are also some unforgettable experiences you can plan during your stay at the Kahala. Have you seen Moana? You can experience a true, traditional Hawaiian Sailing Canoe adventure just like in the movie. How cool is that? With that tour you get a guide to take you through the land divisions while teaching the age old tradition of non instrumental navigation. See?! Just like the movie! I would pretty much guarantee Maui or that crazy chicken won’t join you on this adventure though πŸ˜‰

They also have a whole dolphin quest where you can choose from several different encounters. You can even be a trainer for the day! There is a precious family of 6 dolphins that reside at the Kahala and they were so fun to watch.

Let’s talk food: The food at the Kahala did not disappoint! There are several places to choose to dine while at the Kahala and you can’t go wrong with any of them. Every morning we walked down to The Plumeria Beach House for a huge breakfast buffet of anything breakfast related you could imagine! We ate on the lawn by the ocean every morning. It was heavenly! Well… except one morning when our surprise visitors met us there!!😜

One afternoon we didn’t feel like going out for lunch so we ordered room service. We figured we could enjoy a lunch on the patio. They swiftly brought our {AMAZING} lunch to our room and it slightly felt like a scene from Gilmore Girls where all of Sookie’s bus boys bring out Thanksgiving lunch. Anyone else remember that episode? ☺️ Not only did our lunch come promptly but it came with staff that set up a table and chairs with linens and all the fixings, including a fresh floral centerpiece in a matter of seconds. Oh and see that yummy milkshake, yeah…I totally knocked it over within the first 5 minutes! They brought us another one and cleaned up my attempt to clean it up which probably just rubbed it into the floor more. I felt terrible! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

We loved the Plumeria Beach House so much that we tried it for dinner one night. Again- so delicious! Every single meal we ate during our stay felt like royalty. And we didn’t lift a finger! Can I get an amen from all us non-cookers out there πŸ˜‚

If you want to enjoy a more fine dining experience then Hoku’s or Arancino would be great choices. When it comes to upping the romance factor they have private beach dining options available as well. The Kahala Hotel & Resort makes an impressive effort to ensure unique dining opportunities year round. They host wine tastings, seafood buffets, curry Wednesdays, and so much more that you can see on their page here.

Okay, I know you’re DYING to know who our visitors were! Just in case you were wondering, Hawaii is almost 3,700 miles away from our home. You don’t accidentally bump into people when you’re that far from home. Let me paint a picture for you. We are walking down bright and early to enjoy breakfast on the beautiful ocean front. When you walk in you can see straight through to the ocean. All of a sudden Michael pauses then takes off in front of me then I realize what he sees. It was his step mom sitting at a table. Then he turns and his dad is standing on the side talking to two more of their friends! Y’all, my in laws crashed our honeymoon! πŸ˜‚ I must say they were kind enough to come towards the end of our trip!

It was about day 5 and we had decided to do the whole romantic wake up and watch the sunrise on the beach thing. So we get up early, head outside to see this πŸ‘‡

inlaysThat’s the in laws! In Hawaii. On our honeymoon. Though I didn’t find it very amusing at the time, I can’t help but laugh every time we share this story. It’s one of those we always tell during 2 truths and a lie…and we usually win the game! In all seriousness though, my in laws are great. We went on to finish off our honeymoon then headed back to start the journey of marriage together!

All of that to say, the Kahala Hotel & Resort will always hold a special place in our hearts. We had an absolute blast and hope to go back with the kids soon!

Have you ever visited the Kahala? Comment and share below! Double points if your parents/in laws crashed your honeymoon too!! 😜🀣

Thanks for taking a β€˜snippet’ from our world!
