5 Ways To Instantly Change The Mood Of Your Home

5 Ways To Instantly Change The Mood Of Your Home

Does the mood of your home ever need a re-vamping? I’ve heard that women play a large role in their house’s mood. No pressure, right?! Do you agree that us mamas control {somewhat} the direction of the house’s attitude? Have you heard the phrase, if mama ain’t happy then no one is happy?

I am a big believer that if this mama’s spirit is in the right place then it will overflow into my home. Not just spiritually speaking, but mentally and emotionally as well. If M comes home to a stressed out version of myself its pretty guaranteed that he will naturally pick up on it. The kids do too…trust me. It has broken my heart to hear my oldest say, “mom why are you talking mad to me?” That tells me that my tone has pierced straight to his heart and his gut knows that something is off with mom.

So what can we do to instantly change the mood of our homes? These are tried and true tips that work for my household. If I implement all 5 of these from the moment I wake up, (okay…after my first cup of joe) then it is bound to boost my mood for the day. Give them a try and let me know what you think!

1. Light candles– Candles just create a presence of calmness and peace. Some of my favorite candles include the Aspen Bay Jar Volcano Candle and the Bath and Body Works Mahogany Teakwood. I also have the habit of grabbing a walmart candle each week. If I ever forget and find myself candle-less then I grab some tea lights and put them to work ☺️ For me, it doesn’t matter the brand, just having the essence of a candle going is incredibly calming and welcoming for our home.

2. Have fresh flowers or greenery– This is worth budgeting for! Whatever breathes life into your soul is definitely worth keeping around. Fresh florals or greenery is the cherry on top for my kitchen. I love to have a vase of flowers/greenery on my kitchen table and my kitchen island. If you can’t get it at the store then plant it. We have a rosemary bush as well as a mint bush. I send the kids out to clip some off and I immediately get a few vases worth of greenery, not to mention a great smell. And don’t worry- I DO NOT have a green thumb but I couldn’t kill off the rosemary or mint if I tried. You got this!

3. Turn on music/off with the TV– Have you ever watched TV at 1pm? There is NOTHING on. At least nothing worth wasting brain cells on. Be intentional with the noise you surround yourself with. At our house, a favorite station is Bethel Music. We equally love the Moana and Sing soundtrack as well as some Ingrid Michaelson. We kind of bounce all over the place when it comes to music. Oh and come 5 pm you can guarantee I am saying, “Hey Google, play some relaxing music” I don’t drink so this is considered my 5 o’clock wine for the day 🤣 🍷

4. Open curtains & blinds– Nothing is more depressing than a dark house! Take advantage of the natural light available and hey, save some $$ while you’re at it. Don’t be afraid to pull back those curtains and open those blinds. I’m sure people drop a pretty penny for curtains but please, OPEN them for crying out loud! Yes, they are pretty but people can still see them pulled back, I promise. And blinds… well why show case them?? They really aren’t that cute. Anyways, I think there is some study out there that talks about the positive effects sunlight has on the mood and the negative effects of darkness. I don’t have that info but just ponder that. It makes total sense!

5. Turn on lamps-Sometimes overhead lighting can simply be too harsh. There is a time and place for them but if you are trying to create a space of peace and calmness then lamps are going to be your trick. Y’all, my room has 4 lamps in it! I’m sitting here now writing this with 3 of the 4 on. 😊 Lamps don’t have to be an expensive purchase either. Check out these great lamps here. Go getcha some girl!

So I guess this is techically #6 but the most important thing you can do for your self, your spouse, your family and others is spend time with Jesus every day. Whatever that looks like for you, do it. Some days I get to really dive into the scriptures and journal, other days I get time to just talk with our Savior in the car and others I turn on some music and have a little worship fest in the midst of washing dishes. Whatever connects your heart to the Lord, do it. Give him yourself today and every today. There’s a freebie for ya! 😉

I’d love to hear what brightens up your space! What are your favorite mood boosters for your home?

Thanks for taking a ‘snippet’ from our world!
